Dangerous jobs 101. While i was doing this i couldn’t help but think of how in the James Bond films nothing seems to faze the agent in question. Threat of torture, no problem, looming shark attack, walk in the park. Plane going down and parachute got a big hole in it, don’t sweat it. Cubby Broccoli always had an eye for the sequel. In real life heights are scary (stating the obvious) but you can get used to it. I supposed the trick is not to become too blasé. When i first went to the top i stayed in the middle, i had feelings of vertigo as the tower moved in the wind and the steeple remained fixed. It looked as if the steeple was moving not me. I also thought what good value for money humans are. If they had to design and build a robot to replace me it would cost an absolute fortune in R&D. Then there’s the maintenance, servicing, robot union issues. Me they get cheap. They pick up a phone and say they want a bod (not a bot) to come over and clear out a church. What rate are you paying? ask the agency, we’ll pay the bod the minimum wage. Fine, and with our commission and the tax that will bring the total you have to pay to about 25 euros an hour. Bargain! If i was paid 20 euro’s an hour instead of 8,50 (plus 5euro a day for lunch) i’d feel happier about looking death in the eye. Bond is underpaid for his near death shenanegans, and so am i, but unfortunately, beggers can’t be choosers, and there’s always someone willing to work for sod all. Funny as in militant France

Welding – Building A Go-Kart Overview Video

The first video thats related to this is the entire video. this is just a demo.
heres the Specs:
This project was done for a graduating grade at my high school. the grade on it was a 98% and i got a 95 on my speech (which was 12 minutes long.) this was the video i showed during my presentation.

this project took a total of 2 to 3 months of work, and i started with ordering a set of go-kart plance from Don’s DIY Den (diyden.net.) The go-kart was origionally designed for a 5 horsepower motor, but i put in a monster 18 horsepower twin cylinder motor. it wasnt the BEST idea because the ngine is on the side and it is kind of off weight. other than that and the crappy breaks, there are no real problems with it.

The frame used mostly .095″ one inch square tubing, and for the braces and brackets, i used 1/4″ sheet metal.

All of the parts in which i did not build or find from friends, i obtained from northern tool (northerntool.com.) some parts like the front wheels and steering wheel, i got from friends or yard sales. i got the engine from my stepbrother Tony moore who i thank dearly. the engine is $1400 brand new. it was used in Iraq to power a giant frige. tony bought it to grind up horse poop. and i got it for free.

This thing started up the first pull and yes, i know the mixure is off, but once we got this thing working, it topped out at about 50 MPH, andhad real nice handling. not that great of a turning radious, but good handling.

the clutch was actually a belt clutch and i welded on a sprocket, and it worked perfectly. it is a single speed which is similar to second gear. im DYING for a two pully centrifugal clutch system so i can get all my horsepowers out. either that or some shifter clutch five speed

i have done substantial work since this video. the front shocks DO look bent. theyre not. single A-arm suspentions do move around like that. i admit it does look dumb, SO i put some real beefy shocks up front, and it did give it a four or five inch lift. and now it doesnt look bent anymore. it went from lookling like

Rob and i welded on it using some TIG a lot of MIG, but mostly flux chore welding. i used PAC to cut some pieces and i used a hydraulic sheer to cut and bend a lot of the bracings, mounts, and brackets.

this project took a tootal of $700 dollars. its a good price considering the fact that the motor is $1300 brand new.

(UPDATE 11/1/07)- I found this project to be a big dissapointment to my highschool career. its honestly one of my biggest accomplishments i will ever complete in my lifetime, and i was not accredited properly. the school had an award ceremony for the best senior projects. it was narrowed down to the special edd kids, the dance kids welding stuff, and so on. it was completely rediculous. a girl got an award for learning how to dance. a kid got an award for learning how to play drums. every single award was like that. no big accomplishments at all. and no award for me. all this was done with my bare hands. i put more effort into this than most of thie kids didn on theirs in the 3000 student school. and the schools system wasnt professional enough to even notice my project.

even though i felt like it was a horrible waste of time when i didnt get any awards, its still an accomplishment for me.

the gokart is currently sitting out in my backyard. it still runs good, but i still need to add one or two support rails on the frame. the torque of the motor and the poorly designed chain guard snapped the chain. once i get off my lazy but, i might fix it.

Choosing the best fabric for your next quilting project

Most quilters prefer 100% cotton made fabrics, because cotton is easy to handle, mark, press and sew by hand. Thanks to the advantage cotton has over other fabrics, specialized shops sell in majority pure cotton fabrics, which of course differ according to the color and size.

Those who have accumulated more experience with quilting may want to deal with different, more sophisticated material. An unusual fabric may be difficult to deal with, especially when it’s the first time you handle it, therefore it is advisable to use a test block first. If you want to add layers of different materials, again make a test. Usually, bear in mind that medium dense fabrics cope well with even weaves. Fabrics which are negligently woven may distort themselves to easily while woolen or silken materials, generally those who are lightweight, are more difficult to handle with and prior experience is required.

Moreover, not only will the fabric influence your quilting project but also the color you choose. The tone could be used to give depth to the handicraft and add interest to an otherwise dull quilt. Thus, it is best to combine both color and tone for the desired look to take shape.

Chromatically speaking, you also need to ensure the color of the fabric will be well complemented by the others around it. Contrasting colors make nice effects and ensure your piece is original. Warm colors like yellows, oranges or reds combined with colder ones like greens, blues, or violets enliven the quilt block and make it more attractive to the eye and vividly portrayed.

Furthermore, you can combine fabrics which have different prints or styles because if the fabrics are correctly matched together, you will create a visually enticing quilting block. Another tip to consider would be to remember that quilt blocks can be made of layers of the same fabrics or shade, but it would be more interesting if you ensured they contrasted in texture. For instance fabrics combining velvet with sheen such as taffeta create wonderful effects to the eye.

After you have made your choice, you must use the fabric accordingly and prepare it for the quilting project. Cotton fabrics may shrink when washed or dried so if you don’t wash the cotton fabric before using it for quilting, the first time you wash it though, it may ruin your quilting because the stitching lines might gather in small wrinkles and the fabric will shrink then.

Therefore, to make sure, your work will not be affected by the fabric’s washing properties, you must pre-wash all the fabrics prior to starting your work in the machine, setting it on the short gentle washing cycle. It’s best to use cool or lukewarm water yet never use hot water. A mild, not too powerful detergent could be used, but don’t wash with detergent if the fabric is unsoiled. Another tip to consider would be to wash together fabrics with similar colors so that nothing happens if they are colorfast. After the washing, dry it and press the fabric for ironing. Only after this final stage, will the fabrics be ready for quilting. You would not want to work for hours on a quilt, only to have the fabric shrink after washing it.
