All That You Wanted To Know About Mobile Welding

Lets not kid ourselves; a welders job aint fun! A welders got to work in the hottest and sometimes in the most cramped up space as he brings to life the most complicated of designs. But if its so much of hard work, why is it that more and more people would rather prefer to face the dirt and grit than anything else? The job satisfaction thats achieved at the end of the long and grueling work is incomparable. A design thats finished to perfection is nothing less than a master piece. Thanks to technology, the work isnt as grueling as it was a few years ago.

Welding is a huge field, with plenty of specializations. One such is, mobile welding. The job allows people with their own vehicle to undertake welding jobs on the go. The welding vehicle is modified to accommodate the equipments used for the service. While most welders perform structural welding or pipeline welding, the most common among them is stick welding.

Some of the most common service offered by welding companies includes fabrication, welding and cutting including TIG, MIG, residential, industrial and even ARC gouging.

When choosing a professional for mobile welding, remember to exercise care and caution. The greatest advantage of seeking help from a professional mobile welder is that you can get the best help right to your doorstep rather than having to scout for them. The expert can come to your place to weld your fence or steel structure rather than you going to him for help. Albeit a little expensive than normal services, mobile welding has become very popular mainly because of the convenience aspect.

The internet is a great resource to look for qualified welders in your place. You can choose them from the several web directories in your place. But make sure, you enquired well about his credentials. Theres nothing quite disheartening than a product that is shoddy. Another thing to look for in a mobile welding service company is if they are registered with an association for welders in your locality. Professionals hired through these associations are sure to follow industry set standards.

Its not only the mobile welding industry, but the entire welding industry in general has witnessed stupendous growth. If reports from the American Welding Society are to be believed, for every two welders who retire, only one enters the workforce. This automatically translated business for the people joining the industry.

So the next time youre looking for the convenience of getting your work done at your place, make sure you call for the services of a professional mobile welder.

The author is an expert on mobile welding and has written several articles on mobile welding services. With so much importance in the industry, it only makes sense that you prefer mobile welding services.

So What Are Some of the Applications For the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process?

By: Jennifer Jenkins

]]>

So what are some of the applications for GTAW?
Obviously, this process is used for a wide variety of applications where the parts are made out of non-ferrous metals. Maintenance and repair is done by both manual and automatic methods of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. From stainless to titanium, aluminum, inconel, monel, cobalt, magnesium, hastalloy, you name it, and it can probobly be welded with TIG.

It is appropriate for welding of pipe and tubing in all positions. The excellent control of heat input gives maximum penetration while preventing melt-through on the root (first) pass. A lot of times a procedure is used where the root pass is welded with the GTAW process and then completed with Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, or flux Cored Arc Welding. This is used to obtain a high quality, low cost weld.

Consumable inserts are sometimes used in critical service applications. These inserts reduce porosity when alloyed with deoxidizers, improve the contour of the underside of the weld, and minimize cracking in the weld. On thin pipewall (depending on the base metal) , complete fusion is obtained without the use of filler metal. Filler metal , is used with thicker sections in order to fill the joint. Pulsed current may also be used.
Automatic circumferential or orbital Gas Tungsten Arc Welding is also used to weld pipe and tube.
Power piping, Air piping, Refrigeration piping, Chemical industry process piping, and Nuclear power piping are some of the different industries that apply the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding  process for welding pipe and tubing. Vacuum jacketed piping and pressure piping are a couple of cases where critical welding is required.

Nuclear Power Facilities :

Critical welding in the construction and repair of nuclear power facilities is required. Both manual and automatic methods are employed for many nuclear applications because of their precise control of the welding.
Pressure Vessels, Boilers, and Heat Exchangers :
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding has a wide range of applications in  the pipe and tube industry for the welding of pressure vessels, boilers, and heat exchangers. It is employed where full fusion welding is made from one side, without the use of permanent backing rings, and on girth butt welds with a smooth internal contour. Adequate mechanical strength and corrosion resistance for a particular service encountered can be obtained by choosing the correct filler metal and welding conditions.

Aerospace :

The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process is the major welding process used in the aerospace industry. Aircraft, spacecraft, and launch vehicles are a few of what’s included in this industry. Some of the metals welded include aluminum, nickel, stainless steel, magnesium, and super alloys. Both the manual and automatic methods are employed in this industry. Pulsed current is also used extensively in this industry. Just about all critical welds made in this industry are done by TIG and a highly skilled welder.

Ships :

The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process is applied in the ship-building industry because different materials like aluminum, molybdenum, and stainless steel are used. There is a lot of applications in this industry for the welding of stainless steel and aluminum.

Transportation :

The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process is used somewhat in the automotive and railroad industries. It is used mainly for the welding of non-ferrous metals, maintenance, and for small components. Fabrication of aluminum fuel tanks is one application used in this industry.
In the railroad industry, several of the interior components are made of aluminum, stainless steel, monel, and copper are sometimes welded by this process. Some maintenance and repair of passenger trains is also performed.

Another area of use for this process is contractor work. If you have the equipment and skill you can charge anywhere from – 5 per hour. I personally know a person who’s company charges per hour for TIG aluminum jobs and he gets it. If you don’t have the equipment, you could always try to go to work for a contractor. TIG welding is a very rewarding profession, and they always need skilled welders.

So my advice to you is, if you want to be a TIG welder, get some training ( I recommend The Hobart Institute of Welding Technology in Troy, Ohio ) They’re the best! Maybe, if you could afford it,  get a certification in GTAW while you go to school there. Apply yourself, and learn as much as you can. Then be aggressive, and go out there and get a job in the TIG welding industry. Make sure to keep your attendance perfect, if at all possible. Employers want you to come to work and be on time. If you do this you’ll be on your way to an interesting and fun career that is rewarding.

The Welland Canal’s Importance to the Metal Stamping Industry

Logistics and transportation are areas where efficiency makes for a successful bottom line; many industries have been lured from North America by lower overhead, less regulation, and more freedom to dump waste. The last thing industry here in the First World needs is an expensive disaster that interrupts the supply line to industries like metal stamping of parts for larger industries. Deadlines for delivery, the cost of shipping – vital factors like these can become unmanageable during a sustained interruption of the logistical chain.

Take for example the raw materials and machinery needed to operate a custom metal stamping factory that makes parts that require custom parts made with difficult forms or deep drawing to fill the order that makes another company tick. The stamping factory will need special tools and stamping machinery. The best equipment would be most likely imported from Germany where the highest quality machinery is produced. The German equipment comes in across the ocean into a city like Detroit or Chicago, where it may change over to finish the journey by rail. Then the rolls of steel or aluminum have to come in from another continent perhaps. All of this cargo is typical to shipping on the Great Lakes. An accident or sabotage along one of the canals or locks could paralyze many industries, and in fact both accidents and sabotage have occurred along the Welland Canal.

It was a clear and pleasant evening several miles from where I grew up in Welland, in a small town called Allenburg along the canal heading north to St. Catherines. Allenburg is basically a coffee shop, a stoplight, an antique store – oh yes…and one lift bridge. Canal bridges are pretty easy to drive – one stick makes them go up, the other stick makes them go down. You see the lake boat coming, raise the bridge; after the boat passes, lower it and raise the gates for the long line of cars to continue on their way. It seems simple enough but when the lake freighter Windoc, carrying million dollars worth of grain was passing through the bridge began to come down before the ship had cleared. The funnel crashed into the span and was sheared off, destroying the freighter and the bridge. The Seaway had to close for several days, causing a chain-reaction as boats had to set anchor. The bridge had to remain in the up position for the rest of the shipping season, to the consternation of drivers who had to take a detour for nearly a year. N.M. Paterson and Sons, the owners of the Windoc had to sue the Seaway operators for .8 million to recover their losses but the day-to-day losses cost time and money to thousands of other businesses due to interruption in production.

Security along the Welland canal in Ontario is practically non-existent; the last sabotage plot was in 1916 when German diplomat Franz von Papen threatened to blow up the canal, but he had already been expelled from the U.S. for espionage. A dynamite charge was planted on the hinges of one of the locks in 1900 doing minor damage. When it comes to sabotage the official story of the 2000 – 2008 White House regarding terrorists states that terrorists are everywhere waging war on North American soil yet there’s an easy target on the Canadian side of the border that would cause havoc if taken out by explosives. Without bridges and lift locks St. Lawrence Seaway would close for a long period and disrupt the economy. Interrupting logistics is a basic tenet of military strategy. The answer is that the corporatists and extremely wealthy elite are in control of events and they will only destroy things when it’s in their interests, such as the military implosion demolition of the obsolete, largely non rentable, asbestos-ridden towers of the World Trade Center. Anyone who works with steel will tell you that fires can’t cause skyscrapers to collapse and explode into a fine dust. The implosion that removed Building 7 was recorded from many angles. All three buildings went down at the speed of gravity, the hallmark of controlled demolition. They who own the cargo protect the route on which it travels.

Pat Boardman is an SEO consultant writing in respect to Taurus Stampings of London Ontario who do light metal assembly and custom metal stamping processes such as deep drawing and difficult forms in sheet metal stamping.

Marine Apprenticeships

What’s it about?

From large luxury powerboats and sports boats to wooden dinghies and narrowboats, the marine industry can produce a wide range of professions dealing with watercraft for you to indulge in.

An apprenticeship in this trade has several pathways which could see you working in a number of roles- from aspects of boat building, maintenance and repair, to marine engineering, electrics and electronics. Most apprentices will work under the supervision of others and undertake tasks such as boat handling, support, repair, and outfitting.

You won’t necessarily be working in coastal areas either, as a fair amount of the UK’s waterways industry is based around canals, rivers and lakes. So don’t worry if moving far away from home is your only hindrance.

Who’s it for?

It’s vital you’re a physically fit person as you’ll be crafting away with much manual work which can really take its toll. Practical and technical skills are important too as constructing frameworks could play a big part in your apprenticeship.

Those in the marine industry spend a large period of time away from home and work unsociable hours- you’ll need to be prepared and willing to do this if you want to survive in the industry.

Having the ability to communicate well with others and being a good team player are both essential skills for marine professionals.

What do I get out of it?

As an apprentice, you could learn a variety of skills and techniques to build boats of all sizes and for all functions. You might use carpentry, electrical, plumbing and welding skills as well as more traditional maritime craft skills like rigging and sailmaking. The work could involve constructing frameworks, hulls and decks – even installing parts such as engines, propellers and steering systems.

Apprentices on the advanced apprenticeship will be working as craftspeople and taking up more complex work without direct supervision. Many career paths stem from this apprenticeship – at the end of it, you’ll have a large range of skills and the practical experience needed to get ahead in the industry.

The framework of the apprenticeship consists of, an NVQ at Level 2 or Level 3 with an advanced apprenticeship. Those taking the advanced level could go on to do a higher qualification such as an HNC or NVQ at Level 4. And there is likely to be a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job training.

Job roles as a marine craftsperson, engineering technician or a boatbuilder are just a few of the opportunities that will be available to those who complete the apprenticeship. A starting salary of £12k- £17k once qualified, is standard in the industry.

There is a particular shortage of skilled craftspeople and technicians at the moment in the marine sector- so an apprenticeship is a great option!

So…all aboard!

What are the Different Types of Welding Machines Used in Different Industries?

Welding Machine is equipment, which is used to weld or joint two metals or alloys together using another metal component as filler. Usually structure-less metals and alloys are joint using welding machines to give them desired shape and make them sturdier than they would be if it were a single piece.

These machines are available in different sizes as per their utility. A large size machine would be used in a factory and a handy machine is available for domestic purpose. Types of machines that are available in the market vary from Arc welding machine, Fusion-welding machine, Plasma Cutting machine, Resistance welding machine, Solid State Welding machine and less known types are Induction and Thyristorised welding machines.

Among all the types, Arc type machines are the most efficient and effective. According to the type of material used to weld, they are broadly classified into three categories.

Common most is the Manual Metal Arc mechanism. The tool looks like a stick, which performs the function of a main electrode, and it is covered by a flux that prevents it from oxidization. With the help of electricity, the electrode melts itself continuously for welding the metal. This equipment is mostly used for small tasks. This kind of machine is usually used in construction industry, maintenance and repair of small metals, cutting and making holes in steel products and rebuilding fixtures.

Second form is a Metal Inert Gas mechanism which is a large bobbin like formation. It is a single piece of equipment that includes a mix of argon or helium gas or both used along with the heated electrode to camouflage the metal from rusting. This makes the task easy and quicker. Metal Inert Gas equipments are mainly used in shipbuilding, power plants, aerospace equipments, automobile industry, bridge constructions and refineries.

The third kind is Tungsten Inert Gas, which has a single electrode, and the protective material is provided by another resource. The electrode does not thaw out as it has an additional tool to give it protection. This type of mechanisms is used in large factories where it is impossible to use other type of welding machines. Principally, Tungsten Inert Gas machines are used in power plants, construction industry, aerospace industry and manufacturing industry for more robust and specialized welding.

Apart from these, other type of welding machines that are available in the market are:

Carbon Arc, which is used for welding alloy steel and water jet cutting.
Orbital or Tube Arc is used in casting, shipbuilding, automotive industry etc.
Plasma Arc is used for welding of surgical instruments, food industry, dairy industry etc.
Stud Arc is mostly utilised in fabrication and machining.
Submerged Arc is chiefly used in industrial welding and pipe welding.

Any industry usually uses a combination of any of the above machines as per requirement. Welding machines are easy to use but is a complex piece of machinery and hence should be operated under expert guidance.

Carpenters industry: types of carpenters

Carpenters specialise in the working and constructing of wooden and similar materials on a range of projects, with their project suitability spanning across major construction projects to home renovations and everywhere in-between. Carpenters are highly requested from corporate construction projects such as office or public buildings to residential projects or small scale renovations, withthe construction projects alone asking carpenters to perform jobs ranging from the framework to the roofing to flooring. Naturally, aside from the construction industry carpenters also receive a large majority of jobs from residential projects. The sheer range of carpentry projects that are available has resulted in several branches of carpenters within the industry.

Styles of carpenters

The specialised field of carpenters, while broadly similar across the industry at the beginning of a carpenters career, has different avenues that carpenters can focus on throughout their career. What this means is that a carpenter will pursue kinds of jobs that asks for and develop the various skills needed for different levels of carpentry. Largely, there are five kinds of sorts of carpenters that centre on different categories of carpentry jobs although there are two that make up the greater part of the carpentry industry. That is Rough carpenters and Finish carpenters.

Rough Carpenters

Rough carpenters are those that operate on the various jobs linked with structural construction work, framing and even roofing. The jobs linked with this speciality of carpentry include:

Rough Carpenter Jobs

* Pre-construction work – sizing, scaffolding, bracing, and formworks preparation

* Making frames, partitions, floor construction, walls, insulation, roof trusses and construction

* Understanding construction blueprints, measurement of materials required and distances, dimensions of structure which are all crucial for major construction projects

* Managing the sizing and cutting of various wood materials, knowing the different requirements of the different types of wood

* Understanding construction of both wood and metal structures, which is fundamental is the construct of building of frameworks

* Understand the the carpentry damage that can affect different types of wood, including any decay or rot

* Fabricate parts through woodworking and metalworking machines, dig post holes, and construct support structures

When selecting deciding on which rough carpenter to sign up for a project, simply look to their experience in the kind of carpentry that you are after to determine if they are suitable. Furthermore, a prospective customer should request examples of any earlier jobs.

Finish Carpenter Jobs

Finish carpenters are those that work specifically with the finished product of a project. The amount of jobs that this can relate to is diverse including:

* Decking
* Roofing
* Interior trimming
* Siding
* Drywall detailing
* Remodelling
* Intricate woodwork projects

Finish carpenters are commonly more expensive to employ but they commonly have high experience and are decidedly skilled, which means that for a little extra they will provide a clean and artistic finish to a wooden project.

Finish carpenters require to have a sharp eye when creating the style, joints and overall look of a project or room which means the choice of who to hire can be crucial for a successful project or renovation central which means that the selection of who to hire for the job is essential for the overall look of the finished product. Begin by assessing their previous projects, price quotes and years of experience in order to warrant that you are hiring someone that is capable.

Other carpenters jobs include:

* Cabinet Makers – furniture and interior wooden cabinets
* Trim carpentry – window, ceiling trimmings or mouldings
* Ship carpentry – shipbuilding and nautical woodwork projects

Carpenters and the industry of carpentry are extensive and diverse with various branches and avenues that individual carpenters can take on, suiting the scope of carpentry projects that are demanded. Carpenters services are in major demand with the construction, maintenance and manufacturing industries all requiring the services of carpenters.

“Go Green”

Today green technology seems to be the buzz word in business and politics. Everybody seems to be looking for alternative ways to produce power with the smallest carbon foot print as possible. What this means for welders is that the future is bright for this type of skilled labor. Although welding itself may not be seen as a “green job” there will be plenty of opportunity to manufacture components for the environmental industry. Experienced welders as well as new graduates will have no problem in finding a job in the green related industry. There was a time when as far as energy related jobs went a welder could only get a job making oil pipelines or working at a power plant. Not so anymore, today wind turbine technology is growing at a big rate, as well as bio-diesel plants. Wind turbines require large components which makes it inconvenient to be made in other countries therefore they have to be made at home to be assembled and installed.

Welding Jobs Beginning to Rebound

The United States government has announced that it will spend 1.6 trillion dollars within the next 5 years on repairing existing infrastructure and building new ones. Some of this business will come to Florida for the simple reason that Florida is one of the fastest growing states in the U.S. this is obviously big news for the construction related industry. Not only that, according to the Fabricators and Manufactures Association International business in the manufacturing industry picking up. In fact from the research done by them the present recession has had little effect on welding and manufacturing jobs. So for those of you who were worried about the recession affecting welding jobs you do not have anything to fear, both for now as well as the future. If you think that it is only the big manufacturers that have not been affected then you are wrong, that also includes small time or one man welding shops who have largely escaped the negative aspects of the recession. There is still plenty of work out there that is linked to, defense, aerospace, medical and infrastructure related jobs. These industries by and large escaped the recession.
