Do You Need Info On A 20 Ft Shipping Containers?

The 20ft shipping containers were available more than 50 years ago. The first containers were used to send goods in metal boxes that could be loaded and unloaded by crane. The first businessman to load a ship with several dozens of 35ft shipping containers was Malcolm Mclean, a North Carolina resident.

His route was Newark, New Jersey to Houston, Texas. A shipping container is made up of a body with bottom, top, and side walls having upper and lower horizontal hollow chords. Each of these chords has an opening at the bottom and top. To allow runoff of dirt and water, it has interior baffles sloped downward.

Generally, the cargo container is made with closed-top dry vessels from aluminum, plastic, plywood, fiberglass, steel or a combination of these materials. The hinged rear door allows for stowing and unstowing of cargo.

Today’s shipping containers are made in many ways. Some are made from 14 gauge steel with an exterior dimension of 20×8.5×8, which makes them an ideal onsite storage unit. Containers are made in several sizes like 20, 30, or 40 feet long with a height of 8, 8.5, and 9 feet.

A 20ft shipping container is designed to store and carry anything. It is ideal for short or long-term choice of storage units for building supplies, commercial use, and home use. A 40-ft shipping container does not have pockets. All containers’ bottoms walls have u-shaped horizontal beams found midway along the length of the wall and extending downward.

The walls have a top with one aperture and many baffles are seen along the beam. These baffles extend outward from the side toward the opposite sidewall, and stop at spaced intervals from the wall.

Shipping containers made from steel have corrugated walls welded to the top, end frames, and bottom side rails. Found on the container’s 8 corners are steel castings served as the end frames and welded to 4 corner posts. Their roofs may be made of corrugated sheet steel or flat sheet steel.

Supporting the roof structure are the interior bows. The plymetal doors are fitted with anti-rack and locking hardware and weatherproof seals. The floor is made of wood laminate, plywood or planking screwed to the cross pieces.

Containers made from aluminum are fitted with steel. The parts of the containers with steel materials are the end frames and side rails. The interior and exterior posts with sheet aluminum make up its walls which are riveted to the posts. Plywood lined the internal walls and roof bows which are welded to the top rails, bolted, or riveted, are made of aluminum.

Fiber-reinforced polymer, FRP, is another material used in making shipping containers. In this material, the container is framed in steel with FRP panels fitted on the wall sides, roof, and front-end wall. There are no roof bows to support the roof structure. However to make them waterproof, it is coated in mastic.

20 ft shipping containers are known for their strength and durability, modular elements, transportability, availability, and cost-efficiency. Today, they are used to construct apartments, studio rooms, school campus apartment, offices, classrooms, and villages.

I  suggest a water cooled engine for more longevity of the machine you buy, remember pulling a heavy disk with task the machine pretty bad especially if it’s a large plot and you have many plots to work in a short period of time like trying to get all your plots done in one day or one weekend.

Now let’s take a look at ATV implements for your food plot work. There are two general categories: seedbed preparation implements and forage-maintenance that you will need on hand to handle all your needs. As you will see when working your machine there will be some overlap like with a sprayer, lime spreaders, plows, disks, cultivators, harrows, seed and fertilizer spreaders and cultipackers.

I will not go over any particular brands for you to purchase you will need to do your own homework on that just keep in mind the implements I have mentioned in this article will all be needed and you will have a substantial investment in your equipment. When looking at equipment get good heavy equipment, check the welding, on your disk make sure it has grease fittings, and make sure the spray rig has a good wide stance with good tires for grip. Take each implement you will need one by one and check the quality this is an investment that will last for many years don’t be cheap here it will cost you in the long run.

You can save thousands of dollars when buying Texas land for sale if you don’t mind a little rougher terrain and a little more work when building your deer plots and maintaining your land.

World War II

Sea Marlin served most of the war in the Pacific which included ports-of-call in Australia, Panama, New Guinea, New Zealand, Guam, Saipan, Eniwetok, Leyte Gulf, Tinian plus the Admiralty, Babelthaup, Caroline, Palau, Philippine, New Hebrides, and Mariana Islands. U.S. Pacific ports included Camp Stoneman, Honolulu, San Francisco, San Pedro, Seattle, Portland, and Port Hueneme.
While outbound from the states her passengers were destined for the Pacific war zones on return voyages Sea Marlin served as a hospital ship returning the wounded stateside.

At the Battle of Okinawa the Sea Marlin’s Naval Armed Guard crew received a Battle Star for the service during the invasion. This action included the Japanese Kamikaze attack on the invasion fleet.

Typical of Army Transports Sea Marlin was crewed by merchant marines, administered by personnel of the US Army Transportation Corps (Water Division) and protected by a contingent of the US Naval Armed Guards.

Captain George Ekstrom went to sea at age 13 in 1898 as a cook. He later became an ordinary seaman, an able seaman, and he worked in various capacities going up the ladder in the hard school until he became master of his own ship. Until World War I Captain Ekstrom put to sea only in sailing ships. Captain Ekstrom was an amateur painter with an interest in nautical themes.

On May 2, 1946 Sea Marlin was transferred to the U.S. Maritime Commission and laid up as part of the Reserve Fleet at Lee Hall, VA in the James River. In 1947 Isthmian Steamship Company purchased Sea Marlin and changed its name to SS Steel Director. The contract to convert Sea Marlin from a troopship to freighter was awarded to the J.K Welding Company, Yonkers, NY for a cost of 0,000. Isthmian Steamship Company was sold to States Marine Lines on March 6,1956. Steel Director remained in service until it was sold for scrap to Taiwan Shipbreakers, Kaohsiung, Republic of China in 1971.

The following is a history of damage, salvage, repair, and refitting to Steel Director During the period of October to December 1950 heavy weather damaged the rudder, boats and fitting. These repairs were made in Houston TX. 7/11/50: On voyage Galveston, TX to Haifa, Israel hit pier at Gulfport, MS with damage to propeller blades and shaft. 10-12/50: Heavy weather damage to rudder, boats and fittings; repaired at Houston, TX. 4/20 – 4/21/51: Heavy weather destroyed accommodation ladder on voyage Calcutta, India to Boston, MA. 8/2 – 8/3/51: Heavy weather damaged lifeboats. Repair #2 lifeboat davit arm, 7 hatch tarps and 4 lifeboat covers; repairs at Baltimore MD. 8/20/52: On voyage Houston, TX to Calcutta, India hit Congress Street Wharf, New Orleans, LA, damaging 6 pilings. 2/1/55: Hit submerged object damaging propeller. 7/12/55: Dry-docked in New York, NY for initial repairs with further work completed in Galveston, TX in October 1955. 8/9/57: While on voyage from Baltimore and Saigon, South Vietnam to Bangkok, Thailand struck a submerged obstruction. Again on 12/1/57 during voyage from Baltimore MD and Philippines to Surabaya, Indonesia and Singapore, propeller struck submerged object. All repairs done in Galveston, TX in March 1958. 5/18/58: Struck submerged object on passage from Mobile, AL to New Orleans, LA. Repairs completed in Baltimore, MD in April 1959. 12/24/59: At Chittagong, India collided with steamer Pyidawnyunt, with little or no damage and arrived in Calcutta, India on 12/27/59. 10/27/60: Grounded in the Houston Ship Channel while en route to Galveston, TX. Repairs deferred until August 1961. 1/25/61: Suffered rudder damage from grounding in Suez Canal on voyage from Calcutta, India to Houston, TX. Towed to Port Said, Egypt by tug where temporary repairs were done. Towed by salvage ship Svitzer to Palermo, Italy where permanent repairs were made. 7/14/61: Struck the lock wall of Cote Ste. Catherine Lock while transiting the St. Lawrence Seaway en route from Montreal, QB to Kenosha, WS in ballast. Struck lock wall of Lower and Upper Beauharnois Locks while transiting the St. Lawrence Seaway. Arrived Baltimore, MD 9/6/61 from New York, NY for deferred repairs to bottom plates damage sustained 10/27/60 plus damage sustained in St Lawrence Seaway. 9/10/63: generator turbine damaged in consequence of alleged engineer’s negligence while the vessel was on passage from Madras, India to Calcutta, India. Partial repairs made in New York in December 1963. 6/7/68: Struck submerged object in Mississippi River while en route from Baton Rouge, LA to Houston, TX and Calcutta, India. Repairs completed in New York, NY July 2, 1968. 3/5 – 8/69: Damaged in heavy weather while en route from Porto Grande, Cape Verde Islands. to New York, NY and New Orleans, LA. Partial repair completed August 5, 1069 in New York, NY. 1/7/70: Grounded with no reported damage. 6/23/70: Collided with barge in Yokohama, Japan on voyage from Saigon, South Vietnam for Seattle, WA. Damage to propeller repaired at Todd Shipyards in Seattle, WA in August.. 9/9/70: Arrived Sattahip, Thailand from Tacoma, WA with refrigeration failure following repairs proceeded to Qui Nhon, South Vietnam. 5/17/71 Final voyage of SS Sea Marlin/Steel Director from Saigon, South Vietnam arrived at Kaohsiung, Republic of China prior to 6/10/71 where she was scrapped.

Students who are interested in enrolling in one of the programs should have a high school diploma and passed the General Education Development Test or GED. Those who haven’t can take the entrance exam instead.

After this first step, the applicant will have to take a personal interview conducted by the administrator or by another representative from the school. This person will serve as a counselor in focusing on the program of study that will help attain the student’s long-term goals.

Jobs On Offshore Oil Rigs – The Work Adventure Of A Lifetime And How To Get Hired

Jobs on offshore oil rigs are among the most sought after in the oil and gas industry, and for good reason. It is exciting work, and an adventure. The pay is extreme (experienced offshore drilling jobs can pay upwards of 100k). Even entry level offshore jobs can pay over 60k. The camaraderie is like being in the military; your buddy has your back, and you have his. You get to work in new and exotic places. And you get 6 months off a year to enjoy all of these benefits.

Most, if not all, jobs on offshore oil rigs do come with a good benefits package – health and life insurance, 401k, medical, dental, long-term care, and other retirement benefits. Travel is paid for, and of course room and board while on the offshore rig are covered. The exception are highly paid positions such as underwater welder; you are paid a day rate or a per job rate (that can approach 0.00 a day in some locations). With that kind of wage, one can buy his own benefits.

Jobs on offshore oil rigs are dangerous – before you set foot on the rig, you will have to undergo safety training and helicopter survival training. The importance of this training can be seen by a recent helicopter crash; the chopper was transporting 19 workers to the offshore rig, and went down. All 19 workers survived. You will find that the competition to obtain a high paying oil rig job is tough, especially for entry level positions, but if you know where to send your CV or Resume, and who to speak to, then it all becomes a lot easier.

The hardest thing about getting jobs on offshore oil rigs is landing the first hitch – it seems most employers want offshore experience more than even oil rig experience. Fortunately, there are companies that hire for entry level offshore jobs, such as roustabouts and roughnecks. Your best bet is to apply in person, at the onshore managing facility for the offshore rigs. In the United States, this will be in Houston, Texas, and Lafourche, Louisiana. If that isn’t possible, the next best choice is to either find the hiring web pages of all the offshore drilling contractors yourself and submit your resume, or hire someone to do it for you.

If you have relevant experience in the major trades (welding, electrician, mechanic), try the Danos Corporation. Transocean is always hiring for those with experience. There are literally hundreds of offshore drilling contractors worldwide; if you apply at all of them, you are bound to get a job, because in the end, it’s a numbers game – but persistence is required, especially in this economy.

In the intermediate-long term, the demand for jobs on offshore oil rigs is only going to go up. World energy demand will resume skyrocketing as we emerge from this recession, and the wage rates for offshore workers will resume their upward spiral as well. It’s an amazing career, full of adventure and stories that will last a lifetime.
