harbor freight stick electrodes and longevity plasma / welder

Harbor freight 7018 stick electrodes and Longevity weldmax lc-518d multiprocess stick tig plasma cutter. longevity-inc.com I just got this machine and I just wanted to try it out. It’s raining outside and I just felt like burning some rods. these are harbor freight rods and they are not bad but they are more expensive than lincoln electric rods at home depot. I’m not doing any tig welding or plasma cutting yet because I have not hooked it up for that yet.

Nice video. How much does it cost? And where did you order it from? I am a kind of a newbie but I’d like to get a plasma cutter/welder combo and be done with my shopping instead of buying a bunch of tools.

  • freddytk421:

Yes I will use it for the rails. I still have not ordered the material or measured so it will be a while.

  • freddytk421:

564 6011 or 6013. They don’t have that size there I don’t think. Get 116 if you don’t want to go to the welding supply. That little harbor freight welder is good@MrMaxymoo22

I maybe telling you something you already know, but those 7018′s always form a slight slag cover on the end of the electrode. Normally when I run them I always take it out of the stinger & tap the end somewhere just to knock that slag off to make for an easier restart. Of course I don’t have an autodarkening hood like yourself, LoL. Just throwing in my 2 cents, if you don’t like it or don’t want to use it then just throw my 2 cents back!

  • camochannel1:

will you use that machine to build the railing on your house? its going to be cool to see that project come together.

  • SthealthRaider:

Would 1/8 inch work on my cheapo 140 amp ac welder? because yours is dc :P

  • freddytk421:

That’s a 18 7018 running about 125amps that’s probably average size for plate I just have been using small ones with that little harbor freight machine.@SthealthRaider

  • SthealthRaider:

:O how many amps on that thick electrode!??? Damn thats a huge electrode

  • freddytk421:

I took the 30 amp 220 plug off my old plasma and put it on this. I broke it in the process so I taped it up with some mysterious white tape. I need to get one of the pre made adapters because I don’t really want to mess with it @DustenDee

  • DustenDee:

how did you end up wiring up the unit? did you end up pig tailing for 110/220 or just end up going for one or the other?

  • freddytk421:

well I ill try it out today. I have some 1/2 inch plate. my breaker is only 30 amps and it recommends 50 amps but I’ll give it a shot and if not I will hook it up to the trailblazer generator and see if that makes any difference.

  • spartaeus:

I want to know if it can cut 1/2 steel plate as good as the American namebrand plasma cutters.
