IGBT Plasma Cutters
IGBT Plasma Cutters
Plasma cutting in simple is a process through which steel and metal of different sizes and thickness is cut through the plasma torch. During this process, the inert gas or compress air used in some machines is blown at very high speed from the nozzle and at the same time electrical arc is made from the gas of nozzle to the surface needed to cut which turns some of the as to plasma. This plasma is suitably hot to easily melt the metal that is cut and it also moves fast to blow the metal far from the present cut. Additionally Longevity plasma arc cutters and several other applications also use IGBT plasma cutting technology which enables for Longevity to provide more commercial plasma cutting equipment.
The starting method
The Longevity IGBT plasma cutters generally use a different method to start the pilot arc and are built for professional metal working environments. Some IGBT plasma metal cutters might often use high frequency starting technology, high voltage circuit just for the starting process and others use Pilot Arc starting technology, where the torch enables a constant arc without touching the work piece. A Longevity IGBT plasma cutter featuring high frequency starting technology is more affordable, but also possesses a technological inferiority because of spark gap maintenance, difficulty of repair and you might also find a huge amount of radio frequency emission. Those plasma cutters which work near sensitive electronics like computers or CNC hardware would use the contact start method. The electrode and nozzle would be in contact. Here the nozzle would be the positive and electrode is the negative. So, when the plasma cutter gas starts to flow nozzle would be flown forward. However the other method which is less common is the capacity discharge in the main circuit through silicon controlled rectifier. In most cases Longevity uses Pilot Arc starting technology with IGBT Plasma Cutters because of the popularity and importance of a quick starting arc.
Inverter IGBT plasma cutters
The analog plasma cutter would generally need above 2 kilowatts and they also use heavy mains frequency transformer. The inverter plasma cutters generally rectify the main supply to the DC supply which is give as a high frequency transistor to nearly 200KHz. Some higher switching frequencies would give even greater efficiencies in transformer which allows its weight and size to be reduced.
The transistors that were commonly uses before were MOSFETs but today IGBT plasma cutters are highly being used in commercial or industrial applications where the demand of the size of the amperage is high. When placed parallel with MOSFETs and one transistor activates too early then, it can lead to cascading problem of one of the quarters of inverter. However with the newer invention and by using IGBTs, the Longevity Testing Team was able to avoid this problem. The IGBT plasma cutter can be commonly found in several high current plasma metal cutting machines that put out more than 60amps of power.
The Longevity ArcMate M200 IGBT Mig Welder is the first device to include IGBT technology in the Longevity Welding Equipment lineup, which achieved great success for MIG Welders able to compete with the leading brands and it enabled a it opened the doors for other IGBT welders and plasma cutters. After carefully testing a number of IGBT products by the Longevity Testing Team and well received recognition from welding professionals, it lead to the launch of the IGBT plasma cutters and welders full line up. These units are of top notch quality, are easily portable and can compete with any major brand that is today available in the market regarding both the price and quality.

Wire Feed Welding Machines
Wire feed welding machines are also known as mig welding machines or for short, a mig welder.
Regardless of what you call the machine they all have the same basic features.
Going by the description of the name, you need to feed wire. As this wire is feeding, electricity melts it and the base metal together. This is essentially how it works. As long as you keep wire up to the electric arc you will be able to weld all day long.
Now to control this you hold on to what is called a mig welding gun. This allows you to accurately place where you want your weld to be.
Wire feed welding machines are rated by their power output in amperage (Amps). So for example a small machine might only be rated at say 90 amps and a large machine might be rated at 500 amps.
The more amps the more electricity is used which means you have to heat needed to weld thick metal.
Another point to look at, is what is called duty cycle. Now just because one machine might be rated at 100 amps and another machine is rated at 140 amps this doesn’t mean that the 140 amp machine is better. Welding duty cycle is a figure that is given for how much work the welder can do at full power and for how long.
This is rated in a percentage, so for example 20%, 30% and 40%. What this tells you is that how long you can weld for in either a five minute block or ten minute block of time. So if your machine is rated at 20% duty cycle you could only weld at full power for 20% of either 5 minutes or 10 minutes. The trick here is to know what time frame your duty cycle is rated at.
So let’s assume that your machine is using a 10 minute time cycle. This means that you can weld for two minutes at full power (20%). Now for the rest of the time which is eight minutes you cannot weld at all, you have to let the machine cool down. This is definitely one thing to look out for when you go to buy a mig welding machine.
A wire feed welding machine will also use consumables. The main consumables that you will need to keep buying will be your contact tips, nozzles and shrouds and gas diffuser. There are other consumables that do need replacing but not so frequently. They are your liner, contact tip holder and maybe a few O-rings depending on what model welding torch you use.

Following Measures Can Save Your Skin While Welding
Sometimes you may not wearing welding jacket which may cause injury to your skin. To get away from injury, it would be better if you wear a welding jacket. To protect yourself while welding it is important that you wear protective apparels. The primary sources of injuries are: Electric Shock, Fumes, Gases, Arc Rays, Fire, Explosion, Hot parts, Flying metal, Noise and others. While welding, ultraviolet rays and infrared rays can burn your skin or harm your eyes. Sparks and spatter can burn your skin, your hair and your clothes.
In the past, welding operators used heavy, fixed-shape traditional passive helmet. Bu the trend has changed now, auto darkening helmets are worn by many operators. This type of helmet offers wide range of darkening shades, sensitivity controls, reaction speeds etc. Modern auto-darkening helmets allow you to adjust the settings based on your personal preferences and light sensitivities. Features like grind mode, multi arc sensors and delay control ensure that you are protected before, during and after welding.
Auto darkening helmets have a UV blocking lens that can protect your skin and eyes from the effects of UV rays. One more important thing to notice is that the weight of the auto darkening helmet is half the weight of the traditional fixed-shade passive helmet. It’s important to note that all premium quality auto-darkening helmets rate their helmets to provide a darkening speed of at least 1/6000 second down to 32 degrees F.
Always wear ear plugs, welding cap and bandana, head protector to protect your skin from welding. For all welding safety apparel, avoid using synthetic materials, as they will melt when struck by spatter and can cause burns. Some of the flame resistant fibers like denim and leather can provide protection and comfort. While selecting a welding jacket choose one that matches your work environment and application. If you’re welding in a non air conditioned garage in South Florida, you may feel hot in a full leather jacket. In such a situation it would be better if you wear a lightweight, flame-resistant cloth jacket or a natural fiber t-shirt and welding sleeves which are flame-resistant. If the work place isn’t much hot and you’re working for several hours everyday, then it would be better if you wear half-leather, half fabric jacket, which will provide good flame resistant and long product life.
Your hands are close to the body. To protect them from spatter you have to wear gloves. Since TIG welding requires dexterity, wear TIG gloves that are thinner and made out of softer, more sensitive leather. MIG and Stick welding produce lot of heat, sparks and spatter and do not require a high degree of dexterity, so use gloves that are made up of thicker, stiffer leather.
If you want to protect your leg, choose apparel that has a combination of both safety and comfort. Finally, choose leather footwear that covers your entire foot. High-top leather shoes and work boots, provides best protection against sparks and spatter.

system number one to be told how to mig weld :
1. Buy machine
Get scrap metal
Learn fundamentals
four.
5. Practice
6. Write down what works and keep notes in pouch on machine.
Method number two to learn how to mig weld :
1. Attend a mig welding class at Technical College and use their machines, metal, gas, and other costly stuff that you would scrimp on if you needed to get it yourself. Pick the coaches brain for every welding tip you can get. Actually apply yourself and listen to every word he or she says. ( that is’s right, there are some good chick welding instructors out there )
two. If you need to …buy a machine.
What’s a good machine? I like Miller welding machines. Why? Many reasons : made in USA, service and support are great, great resale worth, parts are available, they are damn good machines. Now there’s always an exception to each rule so listen up!
And when I do, I will search eBay and craigslist for a Lincoln 115v mig welder.
if you are going to be welding mostly body panels on automobiles, or gas tanks for choppers, purchase a 115v machine. Either way, buy used from eBay or Craigslist if you can. Here’s why… First off, 115 volt mig machines are sort of like bowflex fitness machines, nobody wears them out, and used ones are nearly as good as new ones. You should buy a used Lincoln mig for 2 hundred $, use it for 4 years and sell it for 200 bucks. Sounds rather good doesn’t it? Same goes for the bigger 230v machines. Buy a used millermatic 180, 250, 251, or 252, for 600-800 greenbacks, use it for several years and if you want to sell it you can simply break even or maybe make a few bucks..or to keep things easy, just get a millermatic 250 and call it a day.

oil jobs
Rig welding jobs pay about $62,000 a year. This is more than double the average salary of welders in the producing industry – good news as more production jobs move overseas. Even if this can be your first oil rig job, you still have an opportunity to get hired.
The oil industry is always looking to hire qualified rig welders – the key point being’qualified’. Of course, it helps to be certified, whatever that suggests in your jurisdiction.
In the UK, some oil corporations need their welders to be licensed up to’6 GR’ by CITB ( previously known as city and Guilds ). In the US, much of your welding certification is not transferable between companies, and only lasts for six months. The exception is if you take your welding test at an accredited AWS facility.
For another, he can tell you what sorts of welding he sometimes does on his oil rig – what sort of material, what positions, what processes, and so on and that kind of thing. This kind of info can help you to get ready for the test.
In the 1st type, you are permanently attached to the oil rig. Your job is to hold out repairs and build new metalwork. You go in when a big project should be finished swiftly.
Be warned, most oil rig roles ( including rig welder’s jobs ) are most suitable to single younger lads. They are terribly physically demanding and rather deadly. Many oil rigs are located somewhere tricky to reach, so oil rig employees are often no longer in touch with their families. Unless your girlfriend or other half is extremely understanding, you could find your relationship in trouble.
Rig welding jobs pay very well for what is fundamentally blue collar work.

Welding Training Programs Come in Many Shapes and Sizes
The welding courses offered by vocational schools are one of the best deals going today. These welding training programs can be completed in anywhere from three to eighteen months. There are certificate level programs, diploma programs, and degree level programs. By analyzing your needs and personal style, you can find a program that offers the right balance of program length and opportunity for growth.
Welding Programs Come in a Variety of Lengths
A master welder program prepares a person to graduate capable to enter basic positions in structural welding and pipeline welding, as well as alloy welding. This program usually takes from 7 to 12 months to complete. This program is a popular choice because it offers an equal balance between program length and opportunities made available.
The higher level course of is the Associate of Occupational Studies in Welding Technology. These welding training courses take from 12 months to 18 months to complete. This is a higher level welding training, which generally includes the same training as a master welding program. The additional time is spent learning quality assurance, which can help student start work as a welding inspector after graduation. This option can offer the most opportunities, but it also takes the most time to complete.
A short-term course is also offered as a basic program to become a structural welder. These programs can take between 3 and 6 months. Because of the expedited nature of the schedule, these programs are great for anyone looking to get trained quickly. On the other-hand, these programs offer the least amount of training, so they usually afford graduates the least amount of opportunities. However, in some situations, the level of training accompanied with the program length is the perfect fit.
Consider a Career as a Welder
At present, research data reveal that qualified welders are in shortage in the United States and the starting salaries for good welders are higher than several other jobs in various industries. You have a chance at a very good future with growth prospects, if you obtain a welding school degree from an accredited vocational school.

Finding the difference between reverse and straight polarity
When you see the letters AC/DC on your welder, do you think of one of your favorite rock and roll bands? Seriously though, the difference is quite important to the final quality of your welds.
AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current) is used to describe the polarity of the electric current that the welder generates and in what direction it travels. If you use the wrong polarity for a certain welding rod, your weld strength will not be very good.
The general terms associated with polarity are reverse polarity and straight polarity. These are common to the welding trade. Another way to describe the two terms are electrode positive and electrode negative. Electrode positive is the same as reverse polarity. Electrode negative is the same as straight polarity. Hence the + and the – written on your welder where the cables connect to it.
Any type of welding rod you buy will be labeled as to what polarity should be used for welding with it. Using the correct polarity will ensure the proper penetration and the over all look of the final bead.
If you use the wrong polarity you can tell by the signs. There will be an excessive amount of spatter, you will have bad penetration, and you will have less control of your arc.
Some welding machines have a switch to adjust the polarity. If your welder doesn’t have one you will need to switch the welding cables around where they plug into the machine. If you want reverse polarity, you need to make sure the electrode holder is plugged into the + terminal.
The easiest way to tell if you are using the wrong polarity is by the sound and the feel of the weld you are laying down. If you don’t have much experience with stick welding you will have a little more trouble determining the difference. I have seen guys weld all day long with the wrong polarity. Then I would grab their welder to use for couple of minutes and I could tell right away. It all comes down to experience.
If you don’t have much experience stick welding, you will need to double check the way the machine is set up. Follow what the welding rod package tells you to do and do it. If you are using 7018 rods, you will want to make sure it is set up for reverse polarity.
