What’s The Difference Between An Arc And Stick Welder? ?

My Fiance wants a new welder for Christmas and im clueless. Someone said a stick and arc are the same, is that true? Also I’m on a budget so if they pretty much work the same but one runs cheaper let me know, Thank you!

    Both are terms used for SMAW which is shielded metal arc welding. Best thing to do is get him to show you what he wants at Lowes or Home Depot.

    Yes, they are the same. You need to find out how thick of material your fiance wants to weld, and that will tell you how much you may have to spend. If he wants to weld around 3/8 inch plate or thinner, a 110 volt machine should do the trick. You could get away with spending about 150.00 for a decent one. If heavier material is what he wants to weld, he will need a 220 volt machine, and they are quite costly. Good Luck!
