Can I Use Mig Welder Shielding Gas To Keep My Open Wine Bottles Fresh?

I have an 80 cubic foot tank of shielding gas for my welder. It’s 75% argon and 25% CO2. I can regulate the pressure of it coming out the nozzle from anywhere between 0 to 45 psi. Would it be a good idea to put a little of the gas into an open bottle before putting the cork back on it. There nothing more that I hate than opening a half empty bottle of wine and having it taste like vinegar.

Are you high? Just drink it within a couple days of opening it.

That should work – 100% argon would be better but both are used in wineries to blanket wines from oxygen. And there’s no reason to store the wine on it’s side once it’s opened – that’s only for long term aging. Another way is to keep an empty half bottle laying around and pour the leftovers into there to reduce the head space.

Wine gas is usually an argon-nitrogen mix.
This gas will not prevent a wine from spoiling (ie: tasting like vinegar). It will, however, prevent it from oxidizing.

    Brilliant!

don’t waste your time with that. recork the bottle and store on it’s side so the cork doesn’t dry out.
