  • Oh and that body is not aluminium. the only audis with the alloy space frame technology are the a2, a8 and the new TT. this is an audi a4 wich only has an alloy bonnet and front gaurds. the alloy cars are not laser welded they use a special type ove rivit to hold it all together plus a few tig welds.

  • Way more heat input

  • I Work on audi/vw cars all day long and I can tell ya that it is laser welding. you get much more weld contact with this method giving you a more rigid chassis.

  • I guess you are minimizing the ammount of heat applied to the HAZ with a lazer thus reducing any plate defect. I’m guessing this is CMT?

  • Sorry but it IS resistance welding. The rollers are the conductors. It works on the same principle as spot welding, except you have a continuous joint instead of just spots.

  • why would the manufacture spend the money on a lazer welder when a lazer guided mig would be more economical?

  • That is laser welding, u can see the light and the rollers to press the metal together. It cannot be anything else. And the process is with low noise and smoke. It is infact LASERED.

  • This is laser guided welding, not laser welding.
The welding is actualy resistance welding with the lasers being used as proximity guides.

  • And the robot welder doesn’t get yelled at by the boss…but I’d like to see the robot weld on an anodized aluminum radar arch on a boat…will never happen.

  • Never tired, never sick, never shake or forget something, zero error, the welding joint is always the same, like duplicate, perfect job! One more generation and there will be almost no more welder in a workshop.

  • ye thats right. This guys a dickhead :)

  • Looks like a mig to mee. I would agree that the laser is meerly guiding.

  • Is that the actual laser doing the welding? Cause it kinda gave me the impression that the laser is low powered and is only used to guide the robot arm….

  • This will put this old man on welfare soon enough!
